Bommanahaḷḷi inscription of Sōmēśvara I

This office received photograph of this inscription from Mr. N. C. Prakash, Dy. S. A. (Retd.), engraved on a slab kept at the premises of Virupāksha temple at Bommanahaḷḷi, Bellary District,Karnataka.

It is written in Kannaḍa language and characters issued during the reign of Sōmēśvara I of Kalyāṇi Chāḷukya dynasty, dated Śaka 971, Virōdhi, śu. 5, corresponding to 1049 A. D., June 8.

It records the gift of land and _gadyāṇas_ for offering food to the god Daṇḍēśvaradēva by Bammiyabbarasi. Further it records the gift of tax probably for the maintenance of a alms house by _mahāmaṇḍalēśvara_ Satyaśrāya.

    కదిరి పరిసర ప్రాంతాలను 3 వ శతాబ్దంలో పల్లవ రాజులు, 7వ శతాబ్దంలో పశ్చిమ చాళుక్య రాజులు పాలించారు. క్రీ.శ 985 _1076  మధ్యకాలంలో పశ్చిమ చాళుక్యులు పరిపాలించారు. కదిరి లో లక్ష్మీనరసింహాస్వామి ఆలయం నిర్మించక ముందు చాళుక్యులు క్రీ.శ. 965-1076 కాలంలో దుర్గాదేవి ఆలయ నిర్మాణం చేపట్టినట్లు చారిత్రక కథనాల ద్వారా తెలుస్తోంది. దుర్గాదేవి విగ్రహాన్ని కృష్ణవర్ణశిలతో అతి సుందరంగా చెక్కించి తమకాలపు ప్రత్యేకతను నాటి రాజులు చాటుకున్నారు. వీరి తరువాత క్రీ.శ1191 సంవత్సరం వరకు పశ్చిమ చాళుక్యులు , క్రీ.శ.1212 వరకు హొయసల వంశస్థులైన బల్లాల రాజులు పరిపాలించారు. క్రీ.శ. 1274లో  వీర బుక్కరాయలు విజయనగరమహా సామ్రాజ్యాన్ని పాలించేవాడు. ఆయన ఆ నాటి ఖాద్రి ప్రాంతాన్ని సందర్శించినప్పుడు ఇక్కడ భృగుమహర్షి పూజించిన స్థలాన్ని గుర్తించి ఒక మండపాన్ని నిర్మించాడు. దీన్ని క్రీ.శ 1275లో   నిర్మించినట్లు ఇక్కడి శాసనాలు చెపుతున్నాయి .        పూర్వపు కదిరి తాలూకా ప్రస్తుతం ఉన్న గాండ్లపెంట మండలంలో ఉండేది. ఇదంతా అటవీ ప్రాంతంగా ఉండేది ఇక్కడ ఖాద్రీ వృక్షాలతో  ఉన్న మనో...

నిస్వార్థ ప్రజానాయకుడు ఎద్దుల ఈశ్వర రెడ్డి     ‌ జమ్మలమడుగు తాలూకా పెద్ద పసుపులలోవెంకట సుబ్బారెడ్డి, మల్లమ్మ దంపతులకు 1915‌నవంబర్ 11న జన్మించారు. వారిది పెద్ద భూస్వామ్య కుటుంబం.       వీరు1936లో గ్రాడ్యుయేషన్ ను అనంతపురంలో పూర్తి చేశాక ప్రజాసేవలో నిమగ్నమైనారు. కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీ లో చేరి 1936 నుండి 1941లో వ్యక్తి సత్యాగ్రహంలో పాల్గొన్నారు. పాలూరులో జిల్లా కిసాన్ సభను జరిపారు.            1938 సంవత్సరం లో జమ్మలమడుగు కు సమీపంలో ఉన్న పెద్ద పసుపులు గ్రామంలోని వై. ఈశ్వరరెడ్డి, నూకల కొండయ్యలు సంగమేశ్వర రెడ్డి, మోకా వెంకట సుబ్బయ్య లో పరిచయంతో కమ్యూనిస్టులు గా మారినారు.        చెన్నూరులో ఎద్దుల ఈశ్వర్ రెడ్డి 28-5-1941న సత్యాగ్రహం చేసినాడు. ఆయనకు 3నెలల జైలు శిక్ష, 100 రూపాయల జరిమానా విధించింది బ్రిటీష్ ప్రభుత్వం. జైలు నుండి విడుదలైన తర్వాత కమ్యూనిస్టు పార్టీలో చేరారు .       ‌1943 నాటికి ఆలంఖాన్ పల్లి, పెద్దపసుపులు గ్రామాలు కమ్యూనిస్టు పార్టీ కేంద్రాలుగా ఏర్పడ్డాయి. 1942-43లలో ఆలంఖాన్ పల్లి, ర...
